Critical Reading 12

This book is one of references used by researcher in Extensive Reading study. The title is "Second Language Acquisition" written by Stephen Krashen. Actually the topic about extensive reading is not elaborately explained. What I have learned from this book :
1. In Second Language Acquisition, it should be provided by comprehensible input or material. The class also should be differentiated of beginner, intermediate and advanced learner. When beginner included in the advanced class they would be difficult in understand the vocabulary. If advanced learner included to beginner, their English proficiency would not developed.
2. Shielded subject matter is one of approach to improve student's proficiency. The mechanism of the approach is using English in general lesson such as math or psychology.
3. Recreational reading research are explained in this book. There are case history, In class self-selected reading and narrow reading. They bring positive impact in their own way. For instance, narrow reading allows the reader to deeply understand about certain topic. Moreover when it was written by the same author. The reader would recognize the author's style.
Implication :
I think it is good idea to mix general lesson with English, at least they would enrich their vocabulary in that area.
