Gender Discrimination

Gender equity is the key of Millennium Development Goals proposed by United Nation. It is a key for a nation's development. Gender equity empower females and males take part equally in development. Although it is vigorously announced, the gender discrimination is still happened in some country. In this article, Zimbabwe becomes the object of research of gender discrimination issue. The focus of the research is gender discrimination in educational field. The subject who  is mostly discriminated is female. They are discriminate because of race, class, disability and as a result of the clashes that were prioritized in the dominant society. The impact of gender expectations, attitudes and stereotype are also the factor of gender discrimination as well as the patriarchal value system which caused gender inequalities Patriarchy place dominant position of men and subordination of women. To avoid the gender discrimination issue, UN has done one of strategies is applying positive action which is more promoting females into important and influential position of leadership. In the educational personnel the gender discrimination is shown in the recruitment, appointment, deployment and promotion in school. For the instance in developed country such as UK, Netherlands and USA most of the schools are dominated by male teachers and make the female teacher intimidated from their work and environment.

Implication :
I think in Indonesia is not experiencing "male teacher dominate the school" but I agree that few females have influential position of leadership. Patriarchy system in Asia is still bounded in the society, so that it is quite difficult to boost gender equity in the leadership position. We can start the gender equity from the small thing like decreasing sexual harassment and giving freedom of speech.
